So, I just got back from my tour of the REAL WEST WING.

Yes, you heard me right. I got to tour the West Wing, on a private tour specially set up by my former presidential-staff cousin for me, my uncle and his SO, my cousin's high school buddy, and the tour guide's mother-in-law.

Oh, who am I kidding. It was so hottt. So, for all my TWW friends out there, most of the west wing is NOTHING like the way they portray it on tv.

Because a list is easier, here are some differences....
- The press room is in pieces. They're planning to revamp it soon. The poor NYTimes correspondent, who does get to sit in the front row on the far right, has a broken chair. I know, because I almost fell out of it.
- The chief of staff's office is not actually connected to the oval. there's a study and a dining room between them.
- The press secretary's office is so, so different from CJ's. Bigger, too.
- There are half as many windows.
- The mess hall is teeny. Also, it's blocked off. Half the people who randomly wander through the mess in the show would NOT be allowed in. And the sit room is right across the hall.
- There are always two deputy chiefs of staff.
- The Roosevelt room does not have walls of windows.

Things I got to see:
- Oval Office. W did choose a nice color palatte, I must admit.
- Roosevelt Room. Did you know FDR kept a fishtank in there? And JFK mounted the fish he caught on the wall? Yeah. They so used to call it the Fish Room.
- Rose garden.
- Sit room door. It was more exciting than it sounds :p
- Press room.
- Press room podium. From BEHIND it.
- FDR's pool. Yes, it's real. It's really under the press room. They didn't want to ruin it when they built the press room, so the entire room is built separate from the pool and simply sits on top of it. And I got to see it. Hah! take that, West Wing!
- Press offices.
- Lower press offices.
- Someone got proposed to on a tour in the rose garden. awww.
- I met the official White House photographer.
- I saw Carl Rove drive his jaguar out the front gate.
- I got a signed pic of W (Hah, [livejournal.com profile] bessiemaemucho, you're not the only one! ;) And one of the cat. and the dog. and the other dog.
- My uncle took pictures. Which will be coming soon to an email near me, and then to you. I hope.

Isn't that the coolest!?

The end.
