Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all.

It seems strangely fitting that this year, we celebrate the birth of Jesus and the miraculous eight days that the Menorah in the Temple stayed lit at the same time. After all, as some people seem to forget, two thousand odd years ago a little baby was born in Bethlehem, the City of David to a family descended of that house. That little baby grew up a Jewish boy. At the age of thirteen, he dazzled the rabbis at the Temple with his knowledge of Torah. He celebrated Passover, made sacrifices at the Temple with his parents.

And so this year, for the first time in a hundred years, Christmas and Hanukkah are being celebrated the same day. So, no matter which you celebrate, take a moment to think about why the holidays are celebrated in the first place. Both speak of miracles.

So Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah. Remember, today, that a child was born of a virgin and placed in a manger and that a miracle kept the Temple lit for eight days.
