Knitting Therapy

I'm sure everyone's seen plenty of coverage of Katrina already, and heard people asking for ways to help. But I'm trying to decide where to send the money I can give, since I can't drive down and beat my way into New Orleans to get people out, and I can't open my single room to anyone, since I haven't signed the lease yet and there's no room to spare.

My mother had an idea, though. A good one, I think. And I doubt anyone of note is reading this, but I have to put it out there anyway:

Why not move the evacuees onto the army bases that are supposed to be closed down? There are still supports there, still medical tents and such. Why not put off closing the bases, and house people there until people can get out?

But, I don't work for FEMA, so there's not a lot I can do. I'll just donate to someone, and hope it gets where it's needed. Right now, it's all I can do.
